SANTA CRUZ (Private Residence)
This residence features 100% California natives, except for the lawn — a requirement of the homeowner’s association. Few owners would go this far using California natives, so it was a unique opportunity to find all my plant solutions among the native palette. In addition to the plants, the clients wanted lots of space for children and adults to play. As the owner said, “We have a large family, so small family get-togethers start with about 18 people!” The site was challenging because of drainage and soil issues, but the final result was worth everyone’s efforts.
